Job Purpose

The Wykeham Collegiate is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learner Support/Remedial Teacher to join our Junior School team. The successful candidate will provide academic support to learners experiencing barriers to learning, helping them achieve their full potential through tailored intervention strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess learners who are experiencing academic challenges.
  • Develop and implement Individual Support Plans (ISPs) in collaboration with teachers and parents.
  • Provide targeted support through one-on-one sessions and small group interventions.
  • Track and report learner progress regularly to relevant stakeholders.
  • Assist classroom teachers with differentiation strategies and inclusive practices.
  • Liaise with parents, therapists, psychologists, and other professionals as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential records.
  • Participate in staff development and support initiatives within the school.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education in Foundation or Intermediate Phase OR a relevant PGCE.
  • Recognised qualification in Remedial Education, Inclusive Education, or Learner Support.
  • Have current SACE (South African Council for Educators) accreditation.
  • Evidence of clearance with the Child Protection Act and Sexual Offences Register.
  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in a similar learner support or remedial teaching role.
  • Knowledge of common learning barriers and developmental challenges.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and record-keeping skills.
  • Proficiency in using educational technology and assistive tools.

An important and hugely rewarding role, it offers an exceptional opportunity to take the lead – with drive and ambition – in shaping and delivering a happy, nurturing, and pupil-centered boarding environment.

As the Boarding Co-ordinator, you will have responsibility for maintaining an excellent standard of boarding alongside overseeing a varied, stimulating extracurricular programme for boarders, particularly at weekends.

· Ensure ancillary services are monitored and managed effectively e.g. cleaning contract.

Experience & Qualifications
